Over 45 years training, competing and coaching experience in Pole Vault.
MS State HS Champion and then onto vaulting for Mississippi State University. Highschool pole vault coach in Washington State for many years, yeilding numerous D1 university scholarship athletes during that time. Provided one of the largest indoor training facility in the NW for many years developing top HS and Collegiate athletes during that time. Sponsored track and field athletes and events for over 20 years. Raised 4 amazing children to become the best business leaders, menotrs, coaches, and people in the world along with 13 beautiful healthy grand children. I am truly blessed and continue to live a life of servie, coaching fellowship and winning.
We have worked very hard and have been granted the amazing opportunity to have this amazing track and field club as well as ground breaking foundation for all to enjoy. Come join us for memories that will last a lifetime.

Meet the Team
Pole Vault Coach
Pat Licari
Pat Licari’s journey in track and field is a story of unmatched dedication, excellence, and influence. A 1986 State Champion from Sumner High School, Pat continued his athletic career at Highline Community College, earning All-Conference honors before transferring to Washington State University. There, he achieved All-PAC-10 recognition and was a key member of the 1991 National Dual Meet Championship team.
Following his collegiate success, Pat transitioned into coaching, beginning as the Head Track and Field Coach at Highline Community College. He went on to spend over 20 years as the head pole vault and jumps coach at the University of Washington, where he became a pivotal figure in the development of elite athletes. Today, he coaches at Pacific Lutheran University and leads the Pat Licari Pole Vault Club in Tacoma, WA.
Pat’s coaching career is defined by extraordinary achievements:
• 3 Olympians (2008, 2012, 2016).
• 7 NCAA National Champions.
• 33 Conference Champions.
• World Championship medalists, earning gold, silver, and bronze.
• Competitors in the Commonwealth Games, Pan-American Games, and Central & Caribbean Games.
• USATF Level 2 Certification, underscoring his technical expertise and commitment to excellence.
Pat Licari’s impact on the sport of track and field is profound. His ability to cultivate champions on the global stage and his unwavering commitment to athlete development have solidified his legacy as one of the most accomplished and respected coaches in the field.

Triple Jump & Athlete Development
Al Joyner
Al Joyner, born January 19, 1960, in East St. Louis, Illinois, is a legendary Olympic gold medalist and renowned track and field coach whose legacy continues to inspire generations. A standout athlete at Arkansas State University, Joyner was a three-time NCAA All-American and a dominant force in collegiate track and field, capturing multiple championships during his career.
At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Joyner claimed gold in the triple jump, becoming the first American in 80 years to win the event. That same Olympics, he proudly cheered as his sister, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, secured silver in the heptathlon, marking the first time U.S. siblings won Olympic medals in the same games.
In 1987, Joyner married the iconic Florence Griffith Joyner (Flo-Jo), and together they made history. As her coach, Joyner guided Flo-Jo to an astonishing performance at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where she won three gold medals and set world records that still stand today. Following her untimely passing, Joyner honored her legacy through the Flo Jo Community Empowerment Foundation, dedicated to supporting underserved communities and aspiring athletes.
Al Joyner’s influence extends far beyond his Olympic triumphs. He has served as a coach for UCLA, Team USA, and the U.S. Paralympics, mentoring athletes at the highest levels of competition. Inducted into numerous halls of fame, Joyner’s contributions to track and field are profound, combining athletic excellence with an enduring commitment to empowering others.
From his groundbreaking Olympic achievements to his dedication as a coach, mentor, and philanthropist, Al Joyner embodies the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and inspiration.
